The Hill Companies and Provincial Government Support Education Program

On January 16, 2009 Crown Corporations Minister Ken Cheveldayoff announced Crown Investments Corporation of Saskatchewan will donate $1 million to the One Life Makes a Difference Foundation.

The private foundation, incorporated in 2006, provides opportunities for exceptional students who require financial support to move forward with their academic studies.

The program offers an “educational passport” to students that may be at-risk children in cities or rural Saskatchewan. In theory the “educational passport” serves as a gateway to future achievement. Through collaboration with inner city teachers, prospective students and parents the program focuses on creating a set of long-term educational goals. Once these goals have been formally established, ONE LIFE steps in and provides the financial support needed to allow candidates to see them through.

Mo Bundon, co-founder and director of One Life Makes a Difference, has stated that “The objective is to see sponsored children move into stronger learning environments, complete high school then university.”

The Hill Companies and its principals have donated $1.3 million to the foundation. In addition to the government’s contribution, the foundation is requesting significant contributions from other major Saskatchewan Companies.

University of Regina unveils Paul and Carol Hill Family Commemorative Wall

The Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Regina unveiled a new installation today - the Paul and Carol Hill Family Commemorative Wall. Paul Hill, president and CEO of the Hill Companies and Harvard Developments, gifted $10 million last November to create the Paul J. Hill School of Business. The wall will serve as a permanent reminder of Mr. Hill’s generosity and the opportunities it will continue to provide for U of R students.

“Carol and I are excited about providing support for Hill School Business students who will develop the skills to become outstanding business decision-makers,” says Paul Hill.

Part of Mr. Hill’s gift includes a new opportunity for U of R students to participate in an elite partnership program with one of Canada’s leading business schools. Today, 12 students each received $40,000 to study at Richard Ivey School of Business and graduate with an Honours Business Administration (HBA) degree.

The 2009 scholarship winners are Amanda Baron, Kalen Emsley, Tina Paridaen, Kyle Scott and Minh Vuong, and the 2010 scholarship winners are Derrick Emsley, Karlee Goby, Seth Hunt, Jeff Myers, Whitney Moeller, Jada Styre and Brandon Wolfram. Each student will study at the U of R’s Paul J. Hill School of Business for their first two years of university, and spend their third and fourth years at the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

“The University of Regina congratulates our Hill-Ivey scholarship winners,” says Vianne Timmons, University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor. “During their studies both here and at the Ivey Business School, the scholarship recipients will participate in the ‘business case study’ approach to education for which the Ivey Business School has become internationally recognized. Through this process, these students will receive the highest quality education in Canada - one that will prepare them to be strong and influential business leaders.”

Over the next five years, the Hill-Ivey scholarships will result in 30 students receiving $40,000 each to support their business education. In addition, $200,000 will create awards to support doctoral candidates through the Ivey Business School.  Funds will also support visiting professors at both the Ivey Business School and Hill School of Business, and the creation of new cases for use in business courses.
