APTN Partners with Harvard Broadcasting Inc.
Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) and Harvard Broadcasting Inc. are
pleased to announce a new partnership to actively provide training and mentorship for
aspiring Aboriginal individuals who wish to enter the broadcasting field.
The partnership will see Harvard train 21 Aboriginal interns as broadcasters at three of
their radio stations in Western Canada. Through the seven-year partnership, Harvard is
investing $525,000 to train and mentor new, young, Aboriginal broadcasting talent.
“Harvard Broadcasting Inc. has always given priority to developing opportunities
for Aboriginal youth and our recent license acquisitions in Fort McMurray, Calgary and
Saskatoon have expanded the markets in which we are able to contribute. We are
looking forward to working with APTN on this unique initiative and believe that our efforts will benefit our respective companies, the Canadian Broadcasting System as a whole and Aboriginal communities in general,” said Bruce Cowie, vice-president, Harvard Broadcasting Inc.
The 21 interns will have one-year placements at one of Harvard’s stations in Calgary,
Fort McMurray and Saskatoon. APTN will further have access to the news stories
generated by the candidates during their internships and will jointly select the Aboriginal individuals who will take part in the program.
“APTN is proud to be part of this initiative, which will provide Aboriginal individuals with
the opportunity to develop broadcasting skills. As Canada’s national Aboriginal
broadcast network, we are always pleased to have the chance to help develop new
Aboriginal talent,” said Jean LaRose, chief executive officer of APTN. “APTN’s mandate is to promote, strengthen and enhance the languages, cultures and reality of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada. This work with Harvard Broadcasting Inc. will help APTN provide even better coverage of Aboriginal news and current affairs, with talent from the
Aboriginal community.” Paul J. Hill School of Business unveiled
A $10 million gift, the largest gift ever received by the University of Regina, has led to the naming of the Paul J. Hill School of Business and created a unique relationship with Canada’s leading business school.
“The Hill School of Business and its approach to education will excel in the development of quality graduates who will contribute both economically and personally to creating a strong and prosperous future both nationally and internationally,” said Paul Hill, president and CEO of the Hill Companies and Harvard Developments.
The Hill School, focusing on undergraduate business education, is an important addition to the programs and research focus of the Faculty of Business Administration at the U of R.
“Paul Hill’s vision, backed by this investment, will create tremendous opportunity on our campus,” said U of R President Jim Tomkins, “As we move forward, we will look for additional ways for alumni, government and the business community to contribute and reap the benefits of this important moment.”
Hill’s investment establishes the school’s new identity and also creates a unique $2.5 million relationship with the Richard Ivey School of Business, located at The University of Western Ontario, Canada’s premier business school. It will focus on the “business case study” approach to education for which Ivey has become internationally recognized.
“This unique relationship with the Ivey Business School firmly establishes the U of R as home to one of western Canada’s leading business schools,” said Garnet Garven, Dean of Business at the U of R. “The Ivey reputation is well earned and well respected by Canada’s top business leaders.”
In addition to advancing the reputation and expertise of the Paul J. Hill School of Business, Hill is establishing a set of scholarships to help students excel. A $612,000 donation will create the Hill Scholarships in Business Ethics. An additional $587,000 has been donated to Campion College, to establish the Paul and Carol Hill Scholars in Catholic Studies. Campion College is a Jesuit liberal arts college federated with the
